PurposeRepresentation matters. Our event purpose stems from the lack of representation of minorities successfully present on Texas Tech’s Homecoming Royal Court as there is currently no African-American documented that has held the title of Homecoming King. Within the history of our institution, we would be remiss to not acknowledge the many barriers hurdled by minority communities to be recognized and their voice to be heard. We heavily believe that what they see, is what they’ll be. “They,” refers to our youth, our peers, and our community at large. We are striving to put forth a positive role model that will inspire others and impact our campus. Ultimately, we hope that this pageant will bring forth a new opportunity for minority students and provide them with the platform they need to initiate change.
The winner, of the “Mr. 100” Men’s Scholarship Pageant will receive a $500.00 scholarship, crown, sash; and if eligible by credit hour, will be The Collegiate 100’s homecoming nominee for Homecoming King. The crowned king will also be required to host two events that cater to the youth of the Lubbock community and students here on campus. Additionally, they will participate in community service with their fellow contestants. |
